Arkansas Guided Fishing Trip – White & Buffalo Rivers

Have you thought about catching monster brown trout, beautiful rainbow trout or even the ever elusive cutthroat trout this spring?  Well, how about an awesome 3 day trip on the White and Buffalo River in Arkansas?  Last week Nick and I had a terrific conversation with Kevin Grogan, owner and operator of Chisholm Trail Outfitters, about this very trip and man does it look cool and it’s very reasonably priced for everything you get!!

Kevin is a terrific young guy that has a serious passion for fly fishing, teaching others and putting anglers on fish; you can read more about him in the About section of the website.  It should be said, that there are many other trips to choose from besides the White Buffalo Adventure trip, so make sure to see what other adventures they have planned for this year; perhaps you like Colorado better than Arkansas or the feel of salt air from the coast….. you decide.

Chisholm Trail Outfitters have it figured out with their annual White Buffalo Adventure!  An all-inclusive fishing excursion into the mountains of Arkansas for rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout on the White River, and small mouth, crappie and sand bass on the Buffalo.  They typically target trout in the morning and small mouth in the afternoon; you can fish as much or as little as you like, it’s up to you….the scenery is incredible and there is plenty of wildlife to be seen as well.  Here is the skinny on the trip itself:

Lodging

Private lodge for the duration of the trip (2:00 PM Friday – 11:00 AM Monday)cto2

Cozy, home-style lodge on the river; yep spitting distance!  You can meander outside in the morning with coffee in hand while overlooking the river and bluffs and contemplate your day of fishing.  Each guest will have their own bed, most will have their own room.  If you need your own room for medical or privacy reasons, they will accommodate you at no extra cost.  You can even get your own cabin for yourself or perhaps the whole family, just contact Chisholm Trail Outfitters for details.

Dining

Chisholm Trail Outfitters doesn’t skimp on grub!  They travel with their own chef that chooses ingredients from experience and technique; oh yeah, he will even cook your catch for you after your day on the water if you like.  If you need to change up the menu to accommodate the tastes and diet of your group, just let them know.  Meals can be tailored and prepared for low fat, Kosher, gluten allergies, etc.  Curious about the feeding schedule:

Breakfast – Saturday, Sunday and Monday
Lunch – Saturday and Sunday (eaten on the river)
Dinner – Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Snacks, Sodas and Water available all the time

Fishing

cto1All of your fishing gear needs are provided for you; you can pack light!  However, if you want to bring your favorite 3 weight, come on!  Fly fishing lessons are available to all clients before and during the trip on the water.  If you feel more comfortable fishing with conventional gear, that’s okay; nobody will talk bad.  If you plan on fishing conventional gear and or both conventional and fly, please just let the guys know that you are wanting both for the trip.  Just remember, fly fishing can be learned on the river by one of the guides and then you can continue to learn on your own; it’s a great skill and style of fishing.  Here’s what you get for fishing:

Rods / Reels
Half-day guided trip with local guide
Saturday Boat Rental
Sunday Boat Rental
Fly fishing lessons and assistance on the river
Fly tying station with materials and instruction

There are a few things that are not included in the trip, yeah we know what can be missing, right?  Not much!

Transportation to and from the lodge – however, Chisholm Trail Outfitters will help arrange car pooling if needed.
Alcohol – Stock up and bring what you want.
Fishing license – This is a must and is required.
Fishing waders – These are not necessary, but if you want to wade, you may want them.  The guys have waders you can purchase at a discount.

You can get more information from the website, Chisholm Trail Outfitters, as well as check out the other trips planned for this year.  Yes, this is only one of many trips that these guys have put together for a fishing experience of a life time!!  Just let Kevin know that FishyB and Knuckles sent ya.
